Discount retailer Aldi increased its prices in Germany for liquid milk this week, the first price change in almost a year. Low-fat milk is up 1c to 71c/litre and full-fat 3.5% is also up 1c, to 80c/litre. The discounter has maintained its price competitiveness. Milk producers, however, remain less than happy, saying that if sustainability and animal welfare were properly taken into account, Aldi could have charged 10c more, which would have improved producers’ incomes.
