FrieslandCampina CEO Hein Schumacher sees opportunities for agriculture in the emergence of dairy alternatives. Schumacher can imagine that some cooperative members will stop milking and switch to plant growing. He cites Scandinavia as an example, where livestock farmers are swapping cows for growing oats. Schumacher believes that farmers should not be afraid of this development. The manager alludes to the margarine industry, which won the battle for market share in the last century. If the dairies themselves had started producing margarine in time, the development would have been different.
