Global Dairy Trade (GDT) started the year strongly by celebrating the 300th Trading Event in January.

Throughout the year, the company released new features on refreshed GDT Events platform, and launched the pilot for a new service called GDT Pulse designed to increase the frequency of price discovery. Most importantly, GDT transitioned to a new ownership structure whereby EEX, Fonterra and NZX each hold equal one-third (33.33%) shareholding in the company.

The inclusion of EEX and NZX as equal shareholders, with their strong interests in dairy and established reputations as regulated exchanges, formed a strategic partnership with a shared vision to significantly grow the volume of physical and financial dairy trading. 647,296 MT of product was traded on GDT platforms in 2022, from six sellers representing three major supply regions, Europe, Oceania and US.

Seven product groups were sold to 264 bidders this year. GDT Events achieved an average of 159 participating bidders per Trading Event with a 95% clearance rate.

The GDT Annual Report also includes a comprehensive range of statistics, including:

  • Quantity sold and prices achieved
  • Supply and demand data
  • Bidder concentration measures
  • Regional breakdowns
