Cost explosion: First dairy insolvent

Date: 22.03.2022Source: Trends

Belgian dairy De Hollebeekhoeve in Kruibeke became insolvent last week. The Belgian trade is held responsible for this, as it does not intend to notice the exploding costs of the milk processors. De Hollebeekhoeve achieved a turnover of € 12.2 million in 2020 (more recent figures are not available) with 25 employees. A loss of € 1.8 million was reported, which was added to a loss carried forward of € 2 million from the previous year. De Hollebeekhoeve produces liquid milk and yoghurt. Some of these activities are said to have been taken over by A-ware.

The Belgian dairy industry association BCZ states that all suppliers of the Belgian trade in drinking milk are in the red. Contracts were fixed last October, since then costs have risen sharply. The trade refuses to reopen negotiations.
