German major monthly economy publication „manager magazin“ has published a special entitled “In the record rush of billions“. It contains a ranking of the 500 richest Germans and the wealthiest German families. The conclusion: obviously, a retailer’s existence is far more profitable than that of a food manufacturer.

Dieter Schwarz, owner of retail chains Lidl and Kaufland, ranked second with € 33.5bn. The Albrecht and Heister families (Aldi Süd, €23.5bn) ranked 8th, the families Theo Albrecht jun. and Babette Albrecht came in with €17.7bn (Aldi Süd) on pos. 10. Christian and Georg Haub (retail chain Tengelmann, €5.1bn) rank 38th.

The food dynasty Oetker is in 44th place (€4.5bn), the Theo Müller family follows in 70th position with €3bn. The Hochland (cheese maker) owners Summer and Reich have a fortune of €800m and rank 237, as does the Haub family (ex-Tengelmann, retail). The Schels family (Netto, retail) has €500m (pos. 348). Toni Meggle, whose holdings are estimated at €500m, occupies the same position. The Krüger Group (partly in dairy) follows in 427th place with €450m.
