Fazer quit milk processing

Fazer Lifestyle Foods plans to stop producing dairy products at its plant in Koria, Finland, by August to focus on plant-based products. The decision to stop milk production could lead to the dismissal of 95 employees, the company said.

Currently, Fazer buys milk from about 20 farmers in southern and south-eastern Finland. The company expects that other dairies will be interested in cooperating. Once the plan is implemented, the Koria factory will focus exclusively on oat drinks and other oat-based products.

Fazer considers itself uncompetitive in dairy processing because of its small size, especially since its products are mainly private label. In order to remain competitive, the company believes it is imperative to improve efficiency. In the past three years, the Nordic company has invested over €300m in the production of oat-based products.
