Italy: Merger of two big PDO cheese makers

Agriform and Paramareggio have merged and now together form the largest producer of Italian PDO cheeses. Agriform from Sommacampagna (province of Verona) has made a name for itself with Grana Padano, Parmareggio from Modena produces Parmigiano Reggiano. The company is part of the Bonterre Group. Agriform and Parmareggio represent a turnover of about €600 m, of which €177m is generated by Agriform and €409m by Parmareggio (2019).

2,000 milk suppliers supply the approximately 20 cheese dairies of the two partner companies.

Bonterre consists of Parmareggio and the PDO sausage producer Grandi Salumifici Italiani.

Agriform has a minority share in the merged company. Agriform itself is owned 40% by Lattebusche, other shareholders are Latterie Vicentine (25%), Caseificio Santa Vittoria (13%) and Latte Montagna Alto Adige (4.2%).

The Italian cheese industry represents a turnover of € 4.5bn. In total, cheese in Italy has a turnover of € 7.5bn.
