On BFMTV, the president of the National Federation of Milk Producers, Thierry Roquefeuil, reacted to the words of Michel-Edouard Leclerc, owner of one of France’s major supermarkets, who said he wanted to obtain milk supplies elsewhere in Europe “to get what is cheaper”. “If Michel-Edouard Leclerc is ready to seek milk in other countries to have cheaper milk – he would already have to find some – that would mean that he is declaring war on French milk producers”, said Roquefeuil.
Although they do not specifically mention milk, these remarks are considered unacceptable by the producers who claim that they cannot lower their prices at this stage, despite the demands of large retailers: “I cannot even imagine that in the dairy sector we are asked for price revisions. It’s just impossible at this stage”, affirmed Roquefeuil.
