Major German agricultural trader BayWa entered the dairy products trade through its subsidiary Cefreta Dairy (CD). MD of the new company is Peter ten Kate, who headed Hoogwegt Cheese for the past 12 years. Previously, ten Kate worked for Unilever, Bonduelle and AB InBev. Cefreta Dairy is based in Rotterdam under the umbrella of the parent company Cefreta Group and will consist of a small, highly professional team, according to its own description. CD officially launched on 1 November 2021.

The sourcing of goods will mainly take place in the EU, but also in Oceania and the Americas. Sales will also be focused on the EU and alongside this in Southeast Asia, the Middle East and North Africa. CD calls this a global approach with a strong focus on Europe. The sales model aims at partnership and includes ad-hoc business as well as sales of predefined quantities at defined conditions. In addition, the company also makes itself available as a distributor for certain product-market combinations.

Sourcing German goods is of particular importance for Cefreta Dairy. Here again, cheese is at the top of the list, as 55 to 60% of German milk is processed. However, CD also focuses on SMP, WMP, butter and whey powder as well as the corresponding derivatives such as WPC or WPI. With this range, CD wants to be a one-stop shop for industrial buyers of Mopro and alternative products. Initially, CD will concentrate on food quality; trade in feed qualities will be taken up in the shorter or medium term.
