After a construction period of two years, Glanbia’s new state-of-the-art cheese and whey processing plant in Michigan has started production. The investment totaled $470 million.
Glanbia Nutritionals has started milk reception at the St. Johns site and the start-up phase is planned for the next 8 months. When fully operational, the factory will process 1.3 billion litres of milk annually into block cheese and whey products for the US and international markets.
MWC, a joint venture between Glanbia, DFA and Select Milk Producers, is one of the most technically advanced dairies in the USA. MWC is also partner of Southwest Cheese in Clovis, New Mexico, the largest cheese and whey production facility in the world. Southwest Cheese opened in 2005 and recently completed a $130 million expansion.
