According to TSM Treuhand and Switzerland Cheese Marketing, Switzerland exported 77,124 tons of cheese in 2020, 1.6% more than in the previous year. The value of exported goods increased by 3.9% to CHF 694m, due to higher volumes and prices. On average, a kilogram of export cheese cost CHF 9.19 (2019: CHF 8.97).
The EU took 80% of Swiss cheese exports, Germany bought 32,926 tons, Italy 10,533 tons and France 5,839 tons.
Switzerland imported 71,664 tons of cheese, 11.7% more than in 2019, with the value of goods amounting to CHF 452m (+ 4.2%). On average, a kilogram of imported cheese cost CHF 6.31. Most imports came from Italy (25,594 t, +12.2%), Germany (19,580 t, +13.8%) and France (13,490 t, +6.9%).
