The US dairy industry plays an important economic role, creating 3.3 million jobs and paying US$41.6 billion in wages, according to a report by the International Dairy Foods Association. The total economic importance of the US dairy industry is 752.93 billion US dollars.
The newly released figures show that the US dairy industry provides 3.5 per cent of the US GDP and pays $67.1 billion in federal, state and local taxes (excluding sales taxes paid by consumers). The total value of exports is $6.5 billion.
