Keesmakers, based in Leiden, the Netherlands, was declared bankrupt on 27 December. Keesmakers was founded in 2010 by Marc van Wanroij and Gijs Jansen. “Kees” stands as a brand for cheese analogues. The product is made from raw milk and the milk fat is replaced by vegetable oils. As a result, Kees contains 50 % less saturated fatty acids than real cheese. van Wanroij and Jansen hope that the bankruptcy trustee will succeed in finding a party willing to continue the production of Kees so that the product remains available to consumers.
